About the Event

What is the Street Lab fellowship program?

Street Lab is conceived as a field office where street redevelopment ideas are tested and evaluated in neighbourhoods on-ground in a systematic manner. The intent is to translate design intervention ideas from paper to practice.

Where will you be working?

This fellowship program will plug into two ongoing SuMA (Sustainable Urban Mobility Accord) neighbourhood projects in Bengaluru.

  1. Walkable Malleswaram: This project is being undertaken in Malleshwaram and aims to revive its defunct Conservancy lanes into a 3.5 km robust walking network that connects various destinations in the neighborhood. For more information, visit https://www.walkable-malleswaram.in
  2. Complete streets Doddanekundi: This project is being undertaken in Doddanekundi, where a 14 km network has been identified to prioritise last-mile connectivity to key transit nodes and improve access to recreational spaces in the neighbourhood through walking and cycling. For more information visit https://www.suma-doddanekundi.in

What will you be doing through the 8-week program?

The Street Lab Fellowship focuses on the nuts and bolts of street redevelopment in Bengaluru. The program includes the following:

  • Hands-on experience and learning by doing
  • Weekly knowledge and exposure sessions that deep dive into the approach, standards and implementation processes
  • Understanding the governance of Bengaluru’s streets and working with various parastatal agencies
  • Engaging with the community to ensure the effective adoption of solutions
  • Process documentation of the interventions through various modes

Who is an ideal Street Lab Fellow?

Street Lab Fellows are doers who are ready to get their hands dirty, want to experiment with tactical interventions, and have an interest in sustainable mobility. They can be professionals, students, or active citizens from diverse backgrounds ranging from architecture to planning, design, engineering, and communications.
