We are looking for a Designer with a background in Wayfinding Strategy, Signage Design, Environmental Graphics, and Graphic Design to join our team. 

 

At Sensing Local we have been developing a portfolio of wayfinding projects for public spaces, neighborhoods, and transit systems. Some of our previous projects can be viewed below:

We are a small interdisciplinary team of Urban Planners, urban designers, architects, communication, and GIS specialists. Designers who join our team will take lead in their expertise and work collaboratively with the larger team.

WHAT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Collaborate with team members, and clients (community groups and governments) to create detailed holistic strategies and drive designs from concept to completion

  • Take ownership of projects, proactively identifying and solving problems that arise during project work and ensuring successful outcomes for our clients

  • Distill concepts into narratives and prepare client presentations that advance the project goals

  • Anchor participatory sessions to get feedback from all users and stakeholders involved

  • Develop signage detail drawings, document specifications, and manage the construction phases

  • Manage the forward momentum of projects and create work plans to achieve the project’s goals

  • Travel for project meetings, fabrication, and installation review, when required

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Graphic Arts, or Visual Communications with 2-3 years of work experience

  • Work experience in planning, documentation, and management of wayfinding and signage projects for the built environment. Exposure to design strategy, master plan development, and digital wayfinding technologies is a plus.

  • Portfolio demonstrating a strong design sensibility, typographic skills, and systems thinking through completed projects

  • Understanding of materials/methods required for signage fabrication and installation is a plus

  • A high level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD and Revit is a plus

  • Knowledge of Kannada is a plus.

Architect / Urban Designer

We are looking for an Architect / Urban Designer with a background in community design and experience in handling public space, and street design projects.

  • 1-3 years of experience in executing public space projects (parks and open spaces, markets, streets, etc.) 

  • Experience in anchoring participatory design methods and processes is a plus.

  • Strong organizational, creative, and presentation skills

  • A high level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, and Revit. Knowledge of website development and other video editing software for communication is a plus.

  • Experience working on interdisciplinary projects.

  • Knowledge of Kannada is a plus.

GIS Intern

Experience range: 0 to 1yr

Rs. 5,000 - 10,000 (based on experience)

We are looking for a GIS intern with a basic knowledge of GIS and a passion for applying his/her skill to solve problems in the civic space.

We are a small interdisciplinary team of Urban Planners, designers, architects, communication, and GIS specialists. GIS interns who join our team will assist the GIS lead and work collaboratively with the larger team.

 

WHAT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Conduct research and analysis in the GIS sector

  • Spatial data mapping/ collection either through primary or secondary sources

  • Assist to conduct geospatial analysis on vector or raster data and spot patterns and trends in the data

  • Present the outputs / insights in an understandable way 

  • Prepare professional high quality maps and visualizations to be leveraged in presentations, reports, and online platforms

  • Take ownership of projects, proactively identifying and solving problems that arise during project work and ensuring successful outcomes for our clients

  • Travel for project meetings and to the site to anchor data collection, when required

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Any relevant degree with the basic knowledge of GIS and having a course completion certificate on GIS

  • Strong analytical, mathematical and research skills

  • A high level of proficiency in using GIS based tools and platforms like Mymaps, Google earth, QGIS. Experience of using data collection apps like kobotoolbox, MerginMaps, ODK and QGS plugins (Ex. qgis2web, quick OSM, quick web map services, etc,.) is a plus.

  • Proficiency in using the space syntax is a plus

  • Knowledge of Kannada is a plus.
