About the Event

Who is an ideal Street Lab Fellow?

Street lab fellows are doers who are ready to get their hands dirty, wanting to engage with communities, coordinate audits, and have an interest in sustainable mobility. Fellows must be able to give 20 hours  per week to conducting walking audits, documenting street profiles and working on solutioning ideas.


The Street Lab Fellowship will accept applicants who are -

  • Active citizens who are passionate about sustainable mobility, walkability & participatory planning

  • Individuals of 21 - 35 years of age

  • Individuals based/ currently residing in Kochi

  • Individuals fluent in Malayalam & English


What will you work on?

Street Lab fellows will work closely with the on-ground citizen-led walking audits that will be conducted in the 74 wards of Kochi, Their responsibilities will include but not be limited to:


  • Anchoring, coordinating and undertaking community engagement for conducting the ward audits

  • Traveling to different parts of the city and conducting primary field study of different streets to document their profile

  • Being part of the designing and solutioning of the selected streets and projects derived from the walkability audits.


What will you learn?

  • Principles of walkability, parameters that affect walkability across different parts of the street

  • Geo-mapping of issues related to walkability using a phone application

  • Stakeholder communication & management

  • Governance & budgeting structure in Kochi

  • Participatory solutioning and designing of streets & public spaces



Program Details

  • Stipend to fellows: 10,000/ month

  • Work duration - 20 hours/ week (part time), predominantly on weekends

  • Total of 6 fellows will be selected for the program. Applicants will be interviewed and selected on a rolling basis.

Fellowship launch: 20th November

Onboarding & Training: 16th - 20th December

Fellowship duration: December - March
