Land-use planning for Bengaluru’s SWM infrastructure

Waste generation estimation, infrastructure planning & land allocation for centralised & decentralised units

Project duration: March - May 2017

Status: Completed


The aim of this project was to work with BDA’s master planning team on behalf of BBMP’s SWM department, to develop a plan for BBMP’s SWM infrastructure for the future. The key tasks taken up included the following:

  1. Estimation and projection of Bengaluru’s waste generation till 2031

  2. Infrastructure planning (technology/type of processing, scale of operations and capacity) for processing facilities based on the type of waste streams - dry/recyclable, wet/kitchen, garden/leaf, sanitary/domestic hazardous, slaughter house, animal carcasses, etc.

  3. Identification of government land parcels available and on-ground ratification for usability, with BBMP officials.
